Support for Young Carers

carer and the kid

Are you a young carer?

If you are under 18 and spend a lot of your time caring for someone you live with because they have physical or mental health problems, you could be a young carer.

You may be doing the shopping, housework, providing emotional support and or helping to care for your brother or sister.

This can make school life and your social life difficult to manage so the young carers service will be there to help you.

Support for Young Carers

You could:

  • Attend activities and outings to give a break from caring
  • Meet up with other young carers in a safe place to find friends and share experiences
  • Have one-to-one support if that would help you
  • Support with your emotional well-being if needed
  • Be supported at school
  • Be given ideas of other support services or activities
  • Be supported as you become an adult and continue to care for your parent or family member

Local Young Carers have created a stop motion video to share IOW Young Carers to help people understand a little more about what it is like to walk in their shoes. Funded by #iWill
